Specifications by Area
The new Specs tool would be great if it also had areas similar to the drawings tab.
Hello, I wanted to provide an update. Realistically this is a large scale initiative which will require considerable engineering effort which is why we have not be able to deliver this feature yet. However, we recognize the necessity and value of this particular feature. We appreciate the patience and support and will update this post when we proceed with this improvement. Thank you for your feedback

User is requesting the ability to upload and publish Specifications into areas, exactly how you are able to do within the Drawings tool when uploading them.
Separate Spec Books for Multiple Buildings on Same Overall Project (Similar to the Multiple Drawing Sets that Procore already does.

Can't you just add a column where data can be entered per spec division for area? This is a big deal to be able to have the multiple spec books for the project without having to split up our financials (for the same project) between two different projects!
Andrew White commented
Projects with 2 different spec books are hard to separate in a single project. The submittal builders has trouble differentiating two different spec books.

Client has multiple prime contracts and a spec set for each, and some of the specs have the same spec number, but are not the same spec. Right now, any specs with the same number automatically become revisions. The client would like the functionality to turn this off, and the ability to have duplicate spec numbers across different sets without Procore marking them as revisions.

There needs to be option for multiple specs for different scopes on one project. Please make this a priority item.
Tarquin Blackmore commented
Being able to have more than one specification per project would be a huge benefit, majority of our projects are two or more dwellings in the one project each with its own specification.
Add Sub-sections/headings to Specifications Tool.
Maybe similar function to the drawing tool where can link other drawing cross-sections?
Ability to tag or add headings that are contained within a section. E.g. Section 1 Earthworks on one page i have sub-sections 1.18 erosion and sed control, 1.19 hazards 1.20 haul roads, 1.21 trees 1.22 vegetation etc. Very common that specification sections have sub-sections for specific content

I am currently on a project that is multi phased and the best solution I have come up with for aligning specs and drawings areas within that Project phase : "Manually create Divisions" and edit the division name by adding a number prefix (as it correlates to drawing area) before the division number -- Example : 01-05 Metals a.k.a Area 01/Phase 01-05 Metals. Hope that makes sense. Once the project phase has been completed I will make the spec obsolete or just leave. If any changes to specs could be considered, being able to mark them up like a drawing would be soo helpful compared to having to manually make mark-ups then re-upload.

Specs by area would greatly improve Procore usability. Instead of creating a completely new job for phase 2 of my project I could just load the new specs in my original one.
Kindly note this is a big priority Item thank you

We should be able to create separate spec sets just like the drawings. We get changes in our small projects and it would be helpful to be able to keep separate spec books, to use with submittals. We have been asking for this for a lone time now.
Allison Kuruc commented
I agree! I believe specifications should be able to be broken down by areas!
Logan Harper commented
this would also be good to separate kinds/types of specs - i.e. the IFC specs versus a set of "standards" such as branding standards or guidelines which must also be maintained and not mixed with the specifications.
Devon Renard commented
This would be a great tool to have broken out allowing for several specifications relating to areas within the same project to be tracked separately.

It would be great to have a "Specifications Area" ability for the specifications tool similar to "drawing areas" in the drawings tool. Please add this function ASAP.
Paul Muller commented
Please fix this. Our project teams are creating two Procore projects in order to manage submittals and specs between buildings and it is causing problems and delays for all parties involved.
Travis Casch commented
The drawing tool's Drawing Area function is great. We need the same for specs.

I believe that it is very efficient, but some sections can be improved, for instance,
Document section: when a file/ document has been uploaded, and you want to delete it later, you cant, there is no option. Also, under the same section, you cant send a document already uploaded individually, example, there is a folder named 'Sketches' under the section 'Documents' in this folder there are 4 doc/ files, if I wanted to send 1 of the 4 doc/files there to a particular contractor, he would get all the doc/files in this 'Sketches' folder.Drawing section: there is no option to download a drawing that has mark ups without the mark ups.
RFI's section: in the status, it only have 3 options: Draft, Open and Closed. There should be more options, since sometimes for some reason, the RFI cant be closed because there is something that hold it up, but we will still receiving notifications that is overdue or pending.
Submittal section: same with RFI.
Spec section: If I create a spec manually and save it, I cant not come back and upload that particular spec section.
Being able to upload multiple spec books would be a huge help. A lot of large DOT projects will have a specification book and then a special provisions as well as multiple other references.
