Intelligent RFI/Submittal/Transmittal Numbering
Please add an option to automatically number RFIs, Transmittals, and Submittals based on the companies of the sender and recipient so that the RFIs for each sender/recipient relationship can be serialized with no skipped numbers (e.g. - RFI# SENDER-RECIPIENT-0001).
The default numbering (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.) is ineffective when there are multiple parties are involved on a single project in Procore. If RFI #1 and #3 are from subcontractor A and RFI #2 is from subcontractor B, then A is left with an apparently missing RFI number. This makes RFI logs on large projects very difficult to manage.
The alternative to using the default numbering is to enter numbers manually, but this is cumbersome to manage and very prone to error. Smart numbering would eliminate a lot of confusion and effort.
Personally, I prefer to use a short abbreviation for each company name so that I can keep the character counts consistent (would have to add that to the Directory). The serial number would also need the same number of characters every time so they can be sorted in order (e.g., start with 0001 instead of 1).
Other users may prefer to use a drawing number or spec number or something. The ability to select the components of the automatic RFI/submittal/transmittal number would be great, and then the next serial number could be generated automatically.
(Aconex can do it.)
